Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Gangel reported on the status of the roof repair at the high school. There has been a delay in getting the steel fortification for the roof and he said it should be here very soon. The school board will have to decide at their meeting Aug.‘ 12 if the start of school will be delayed, he said.
The board heard a report by Virginia Department of Transportation Resident Engineer Bob Moore about the work that has been done on Route 729. He said lines have been repainted, reflective posts are in place, curve warning signs have been installed and a speed limit reduction will, be posted between routes 618 and 622.
He said the increased number of signage that VDOT is having to put up on secondary roads in Virginia should be sending a message to Richmond to review the speed limit on secondary roads.
The board declined a petition for abandonment of a portion of Route 662 known as Poorhouse Road.
Barbara Williams was appointed to research information about possible grant money available for the Sperryville Historic District.
The board said a number of people had tried to find grant money for the area before but had not been successful.
