If those of us who own a small lot should find ourselves with a failed system, as I did several years ago, and inadequate space to install a new drainfield system, (not an expensive package system that may aerate above ground and discharge noxious odors), we will be faced with a crisis.
The values of our homes could decrease; banks may not make loans. Perhaps our properties would then only be of value to The Inn because they could plug us into their huge drainfield system.
For the most part, the “naysayers” have more than ample acreage around their homes for an alternate sewage system site should they ever need one. Many of us do not have this luxury.
Washington does not need to conduct business by “crisis management” as it once did when the water system failed. The town purchased water by the truckload, increased water rates and shut off water service for long periods. of time.
