Catbirds are famous for their whisper songs. Once, a number of years ago, I installed myself in a blind at a catbird nest. A male quietly appeared on a branch just a few feet from the nest. There, with drooping tail, he produced a soft, intimate medley of sounds that were musical to me. It was as if the bird was singing to himself.
