The Social Security Administration is hoping to lock the barn door on flim-flam artists before they can victimize more Medicare beneficiaries in the Winchester area as they have in other parts of the country. The veteran’s claims agent, Edwin L. Pomeroy of the Front Royal Office of the Division of War Veterans’ Claims, is revising his itinerary to include six counties in the area surrounding Front Royal. The new county trail club, Trail Riders of Rappahannock, had their first ride rained out last Sunday but have rescheduled their initial ride for this Sunday, Aug. 6, at 5:30.

With copies of a legal opinion in hand on Monday, Rappahannock’s supervisors enacted an amendment to relieve the county of compliance with the terms of its own zoning ordinance. Superintendent David Gangel promised the board of supervisors that the expansion project will leave Rappahannock County High School with three functional labs for science, and in return, the supervisors transferred $46,781 to the RCHS building fund on Monday. The downtown historic district of Leesburg will turn into a reproduction of colonial days during August Court Days celebration Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15 and 16.
