The recently published cookbook of one of its owners is as much a pictorial testimonial to Washington and Rappahannock County as it is a collection of recipes. If The Inn were in just any town, it might be a good restaurant, but it would not be a destination for its patrons, a place for them to spend an evening or a few days exploring the town and surrounding countryside, supporting town and county businesses, and, all the while, funding the town government.

I will need more help from Mr. Longyear in identifying the others on the Town Council he describes as would-be developers of “low-income town-houses, condominiums or apartments” or skulking about town with plans to make his or her fortune by expanding the town boundaries.

But, for Mr. Longyear and the many people he says he’s talked with who “believe there is an unstated agenda behind the Town Council’s proposals,” lets me say the “agenda” for planning for the future is not unstated.
