By Naomi Smoot Rappahannock News Contributing Writer -' Most county residents and many people from surrounding counties, not to mention tourists, have at some time purchased apple cider or apple butter from one of Rappahannock’s local orchards. This may very well be the last year such products can legally be sold. The Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Agriculture are pushing for legislation which would, among other things, require all cider and apple butter to be pasteurized before it is sold. This comes as a result of evidence that raw, or unpasteurized, cider can be linked to the ecoli virus. ! But should policies be . so stringent?
