“just fabulous!” — extremely low numbers on birth weight, and high numbers in weaning and yearling weights, milk production, and scrotal circumference categories. The EPD also rates fat content, marbling, retail product, and meat quality of butchered animals in the line. The Ginger Hill studs excel in these categories as well.
The Ginger Hill line started out with “decent cows,” that the Millers bred First to foundation sire Crackerjack Baros 147M, who “jelled out the herd.” His daughters were bred to Shamrock HK, one of the breed’s top sires of broodcows with outstanding mothering instinct, ability to care for their young, and who produced excellent, abundant milk. Miller bred females from this cross to a good, allround producing bull, Executive 727, and the rest is Angus history.
The farm succeeded in establishing such a consistent line that Miller no longer culls his herd as he once did. Now it is more a matter of selecting prime individuals to keep at Ginger Hill, versus offering high quality seed
