It’s Steeplechase time in Rappahannock and the Point to Point races will be held Saturday, Feb. 28 beginning at 12 noon at Thornton Hill Farm near Sperryville. Hopefully, it will be a gorgeous Spring like day and horse racing enthusiasts will be plentiful.

Many people go for the races but I’m convinced just as many go for the picnicking. Ham and biscuits, cheese and crackers, a fruit tray and something sweet sounds great, but at the races there are picnic spreads like you wouldn’t believe on linen tablecloths complete with fresh flowers. Oh. what beautiful sights.

The races in Sperryville make for an enjoyable fun filled day for the entire family. We have selected some recipes from Rappahannock cooks that we hope you will try for the race season this year. We encourage you to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful Rappahannock scenery for the day.
