Miller was formerly chairman of Richmond City Democratic Committee and Chairman of Third District Democratic Committee of Virginia; Co-Chairman of Virginia Democrats for Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956, and delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1960.
Miller has been active in many state campaigns for candidates running for State Legislature, Governor, Congress and President. He stayed vitally interested in politics on the state level.
Miller served as reserve officer U.S. Cavalry from 1929 to 1939, in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1945, and was discharged as a Captain.
He was a member of the Commonwealth Club, Country Club of Virginia, Deep Run Hunt Club, Richmond German and Society of Colonial Wars, Richmond.
He was married to the former Barbara Lizora Schoolfield of Danville, who survives him.
Additional survivors include a daughter Mrs. Samuel (Lizora) Yonce of Greenwich, Conn.; a son J. Clifford Miller III of Richmond and Sperryville; four grandsons Samuel M. Yonce Jr., Logan Hanes Yonce, Clifford Miller Yonce and J. Clifford Miller IV and one granddaughter Laura Swift Miller.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at St. Stephen’6 Episcopal Church in Richmond with burial at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.
