Where will money come from if more
funds are required from county ?
The Rappahannock County School Board is planning a budget work session to discuss the proposed 1998-99 school budget for the county on March 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the school board office. They have also scheduled a public hearing for March 10 at 7:30 p.m. These are two very important meetings that citizens with concerns'about the county’s budget should highlight on their calendars. This year’s total school budget request is for $7,297,832.62. The requests are for: $1,536,454.15 in state funding; $277,085.63 in federal funding; $820,578.23 from other funds; and $4,663,715.61 from the county. That is an increase of $102,242.61 over the amount requested in last year’s proposed school budget from the county. One can only speculate at this point as to where the additional funds will come from if those requests go forward as the proposed school budget to the county. As we all know there are not many avenues open to the county when it comes to finding extra money.
