The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, met on Tuesday, Feb. 10 for a luncheon meeting at the Holiday Inn in Culpeper with Mrs. Zillah Gutowski as coordinator for the event.
Mrs. Carl D. Longley introduced the speaker, Mrs. Jane Woodruff Kearns, a DAR member, who spoke on Patriotism: Public and Personal.
Her definition of personal patriotism is love or devotion or loyalty to one’s country and it, also, involves duty, responsibility and discipline.
The DAR puts a great deal of emphasis on public patriotism such as celebrating Constitution Week, Flag Day and respecting the Constitution in which the Preamble describes patriotism. Four years ago in celebrating the Bicentennial, the words of “America the Beautiful” still describes this country in spite of all that is wrong.
