and was turned down, has purchased 260 acres in Culpeper County off Route 605 and bordering Route 707. They expressed concern about the project and the commission said it would try to find more out about the issue.
The major concern expressed was finding out how much impact the project would have on the roads, part of which are in Rappahannock. The impact on the road was the reason Rappahannock denied the application here.
McCarthy reported to the commission on the status of House Bill 1362. The bill would strip Fauquier County of its ability to use its special exception process when dealing with zoning issues. It has been carried over to next year. McCarthy said carry over bills that are still live go to the floor for a vote next year. He feels if the bill is not stopped it would probably be changed to include all counties in general which would mean a county could not require special exceptions permits.
he or board member Bryant Lee should inspect the school following the next rain and speak with the project supervisor. “I think we will probably have to take action,” he said. “There is a point where enough is enough.”
New construction or renovation projects being lined up include the designing and installing a new roof over the shop department in the high school, two restrooms in the high school will be completely gutted, four restrooms in the elementary school will be upgraded and renovated, and two faculty restrooms in each of the schools will be renovated.
Tole reemphasized the need to remodel the 40 to 50 year old facilities. “The supervisors and school board are together on this. We need to work on lasting solutions and the supervisors have been very supportive of that concept.”
