police officer, a reverend, a bus driver and an office assistant — will read from their favorite books to the county’s younger children. In a lamp-lit, relaxed atmosphere, the message will be “everybody reads!”
The national campaign, called Read Across America, is sponsored by the National Education Association and the Virginia Education Association, and has been joined by the National PTA, the American Library Association, the National Elementary School Principals, the International Reading Association, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and many others.
The local reading campaign is being conducted in cooperation with the county’s school board and the administrations of both the elementary and high schools. Of course, the public is invited and welcomed to attend the reading events.
