Sperryville Gateway
project OK’d
Sperryville Gateway project proponents can take heart. After two years of planning and preparation, the Board of Supervisors granted County Administrator ' John McCarthy and County Attorney Peter Luke authorization to sign the contract document.
The Gateway Project, funded under the U. S. Department of Transportation’s TEA-21 program, provides support of $220,000 for Sperryville improvements that may include: the construction of a footbridge over the Thornton River; Main Street enhancements including pavement removal and resurfacing, burying of utility lines, and drainage improvements; emplacement of pedestrian walkways in the right-ofway; and purchase and installation of signage. Though this program has a matching fund requirement, the County will contribute much of its share through in-kind services, and will have a cash outlay of only $20,000.
New county vehicles
The Board of. Supervisors heard from Sheriff Larry Sherertz on his request for two new patrol cars, and also discussed a new vehicle for the County’s animal warden. Sheriff Sherertz asked for an okay to purchase the new patrols cars that will be used to replace one aging and one damaged vehicle.
