A total of 68 charges have been filed in connection with vandalism that occurred on the night of Jan. 1-2 in Rappahannock County. , Over 70 mailboxes were reported destroyed. The damage was widespread, with complaints coming from residents living on Tiger Valley Road, Long Mountain Road, Rock Mills Road, Main Street in Washington, Fodderstack Road, Resettlement Road, Strother Lane, Kvames Lane Ridgeview Lane, Dearing Lane, Harley Lane and Keyser Run Road.
In addition, windows were broken on two vehicles, one parked on Harris Hollow Road . and the other on Gay Street.
One adult has been charged, and petitions for six juveniles have been issued in connection with the alleged vandalism.
The adult, Alex Baumgardner, 18, of Washington, Va., has been charged with 11 of the offenses; the remaining 57 counts are listed in juvenile petitions, which are currently in the process of being delivered.
Baumgardner will face his first court hearing on March 21.
School vandalism
The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating vandalism that pccurred late last month at the Wakefield Country Day School at Huntly.
According to Sheriff Larry Sherertz, heavy plexiglass windows next to the door that faces Rt. 522 were smashed, but that there was no evidence that anyone had gained entry to the school. ®
