Hometown: Sperryville Occupation:Cafeteria Manager at Rappahannock County High School. Accomplishments: Mrs. Atkins is the second community correspondent we have highlighted this month. She represents the Boston area. Mrs. Atkins grew up in the Boston community, a daughter of the late Ray and Lizzie Frazier. She was one of six children. She is a graduate of Culpeper County High School. Mrs. Atkins started doing the Boston news in the early 70’s, when Mrs. Sarah Latham, who was editor at that time, encouraged Mrs. Atkins “to give it a try." Almost thirty years later Mrs. Atkins still does a weekly column. She is quick to tell you how much she values the friendships she has developed over the years and also in getting to know the new people moving into the Boston community. Her late husband, Alvin Atkins, was the first custodian at the new Rappahannock County High School in 1959 and he worked there until 1974 when he retired. Mrs. Atkins was hired by the school to assist him as maid from 1968 to 1974. Following his retirement, the couple maintained their home in Sperryville and enjoyed retirement. Mr. Atkins died in 1985. Mrs. Atkins was hired in August 1987 as cafeteria manager of the high school and continues to enjoy her job tremendously. She enjoys her coworkers and the children. Mrs. Atkins is a member of Black Oak Regular Baptist Church where she previously served as a Sunday School teacher. Currently she is Youth Director, Activity Director, sings in the choir and serves as Treasurer of Black Oak Regular Baptist Church. ;Rer hobbies include sewing, she Especially likes to make quilts And she collects coffee mugs.
