Not since the 1960's have flowers on vehicles made such a strong statement. Back then daisies on the Volkswagen stood for peace and beauty, and now with the new wildflower license plate Virginia motorists can express love for a piece of roadside beauty.
Through the Department of Transportation's • (VDOT's) Operation Wildflower program, more wildflower plates sprouting on car bumpers will mean more wildflowers in highway medians and rightsof-way. That's because Operation Wildflower, which plants and maintains hundreds of acres of wildflowers along Virginia highways every year, will benefit from the sale of the license plate.
"A bed of wildflowers near an off-ramp or in the median is an unexpected delight," said Charles D. Nottingham, commonwealth transportation commissioner. "This is such a popular program and it needs to grow. The end result will be a better highway environment and happier drivers."
