Basketball has begun for Rappahannock County girls. Last week, Mike Dayton, the new RCHS varsity girls' basketball coach, kicked off a basketball camp for all county giHs’ grades 6-12.
The camp is being held at Wakefield Country Day School because of all the construction at the high school.
Coach Dayton is working with the girls on fundamentals and basic skills, as well as conditioning. The official start of high school tryouts and practice is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 7. One of the main objectives of this preseason activity is to get the girls playing again.
Coach Dayton previously was an assistant coach for the boys' varsity basketball team at Culpeper. He played four years on the high school varsity basketball team at Walkersville High School in
