Development Grant Program matching funds to support an innovative curriculum design initiative to develop a concept based, sequential visual art curriculum. More than $54,000 was awarded in these two categories through a competitive statewide review process:
Grants totaling more than $90,000 were awarded to three community colleges for long term artist residencies during the 2000-2001 academic year. This program was developed in cooperation with the Virginia Community College System and offers support to colleges with undeserved service areas.
The Commission awarded $40,000 in matching funds to six arts organizations to support initiatives which promote arts events to out of state travelers. Arts groups receiving General Operating Support were eligible to submit applications in cooperation with local partners. This cooperative initiative was developed and funded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Virginia Tourism Corporation.
The Virginia Commission * for the Arts is the state agency that supports the arts through funding form the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Commission distributes grant awards to artists, arts and other not for profit organizations, educational institutions, educators and local governments, and provides technical assistance in arts management.
