Cross Country
The RCHS Cross Country team finished their regular season District competition with a dual meet against Strasburg on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The Panther Cross Country team ran seven boys and seven girls in the contest. Despite losing the overall boys' competition 20-43, Rapp's premier male runner, Phillip Thomas, continued to demonstrate why he is one of the top district harriers. His time of 20:44 over the challenging Strasburg course led all runners and gave Phillip another first place finish for the season.
Eighth grader Ethan Berry, Alyssa Berry's younger brother, was equally impressive in his effort as he finished with the second best RCHS time at 22:43, which was good enough for seventh overall.
Other male RCHS runners and finishers were Jason Gainer (25:09), John Sheffield (25:51), Brian Lee (28:04), Hiroki Shimizu (28:40), and Chris Ehrhart (29:54). Chris Graves, who usually runs second to Phillip Thomas, was unable to compete because of leg injuries.
The Lady Panthers finished their regular season with a thriller. Despite some "gutsy" efforts from the dynamic duo of Rachel Sharp and Alyssa Berry, they came up short in their closest meet of the year, losing to the Lady runners from Strasburg 28-29. Sharp and Berry, both nursing pre-meet knee and shin injuries, were able to push out a first and second place overall finish with times of 25:37 and 26:38 respectively. The rest of the Rapp girls ran extremely well and the girls missed a victory by three meager seconds.
