Halfway through the girls' basketball season seemed like a good time to sit down , and talk with the new head coach, Mike Dayton. Coach Dayton is 27 years old and a certified public accountant with Mills, Bennett, . and Bowman, P.C. in Culpeper. He played , his high school basketball in Maryland, , where he earned all-state honorable men* tion as a senior at Walkersville High School in 1990. , He attended Frederick Community College in Maryland and then Bridgewater College in Virginia where he graduated in ,, 1995. He has played organized basketball , every year since the fourth grade and he says that starting early and playing a lot makes a big difference in a player's skill „ level. At Bridgewater College, Dayton started every game his junior and senior years. In his senior year, he was a co-captain and averaged 14 points a game. Since graduat. ing from college, he has coached and played ,, in various summer leagues as well as hav. ing served as an instructor-coach at several summer basketball camps.
