With the loss of daylight savings this
weekend as well as Halloween next week with its trick-or-treaters, just a friendly reminder that the speed limit within the Town of Washington is 25 MPH, not 35, not 45, and certainly not 50 MPH as some people believe.
I have noticed that it is not the tourists that speed, it is those that live and work in and around the town. With the change in time, it will be dark early (at 5 p.m. quitting time) and so lets slow down’ after dark before someone is hurt or killed as they walk along the streets.
There are no sidewalks below the first block of Main Street and thus people are forced to walk on the edge of the roads. VDOT has been asked to widen the berms or to add sidewalks, but their planning cycle is such that any work is still several years.
