Rappahannock girls' basketball team stood halfway through the season, Coach Dayton said, "Although our record does not appear to be very encouraging, our success to date is not reflected in our record. We've come a long way since I first saw this group of girls show up at the Wakefield Country Day School gym in early August.
Kids in general and our girls in particular tend to focus on records. The girls don't realize how far they've come. It’s difficult for them to see the progress they've made, but I see it and they need to be proud of that. Our biggest challenge in the second half of the season is not to get discouraged or to just focus on the standings. We need to come out and play hard every minute, and I emphasize every minute. We need to play hard all 32 minutes from buzzer to buzzer. We need to try to improve our shooting, to be patient on offense and try to get quality shots instead of the first shot. We’ve done a good job lately of handling the defensive pressure and getting the ball up court. But we can't be content with that, we've got to finish the play on the offensive end and get points. Finally he said, "I'm not discouraged and I hope that the girls aren't either. I think that we re going to surprise some people this second half-including ourselves."
