Agriculture

Thank Rappahannock farmers

during Agriculture week

’arch 17-23 is Virginia Agriculture Week and we

are proud to live in an area where agriculture is

.the backbone of the community. We all have reaspns to celebrate the success of Virginia Agriculture. ... First, the beauty and bounties of Virginia's farmland and especially the breathtaking views right here in beautiful Rappahannock County. J According to statistics the average farm size in Virginia is 180 acres and there are 49,000 farms in the state which represents about 34 percent of the land. V Secondly, celebrate the farmer. Again statistically the typical Virginia farmer is 56 years old and provides food Tor 128 people. So we need to be thankful to farmers for planting, growing, tending and harvesting food and fiber that goes into almost everything we eat, wear and use.

There are many other reasons to celebrate agriculture and all it has to offer, so we encourage readers to salute •a* Rappahannock farmer next week. ; Rappahannock farmers and landowners should be applauded for conservation easements of nearly 13,000 protected acres. That’s another success story and we are proud that residents of Rappahannock want to protect 'arid preserve for future generations. So agairi, thank a ♦farmer, thank a conservation easement donor and somely you will be glad.
