Gae Grubbs Cullers, 99, of Front Royal died Wednesday, March 6 at her residence.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 10 at the Front Royal United Methodist Church conducted by Rey. Gary Heaton and Rev. Saundra Nottingham. Burial followed at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Cullers was bom Dec. 7, 1902 in Warren County, daughter of the late Alfred Oliver and Elizabeth Stickley Grubbs.

Beginning in her log cabin home, she spent most of life residing on Lee Street in Front Royal. She was a graduate of Madison Normal Teachers’ College and taught in a two room schoolhouse in Bentonville.

She also taught in a small school in Sperryville, w'here she coached the boys’ basketball team. She moved to Youngstown, Ohio for ten years, where her husband, the late Robert Miller Cullers, worked for the railroad.

Following her husband’s illness, she returned to her family home on Lee Street and worked in the office of L.B. Dutrow, town manager.

Surviving are a son, Robert Cullers, who resides in the family home in Front Royal; a daughter, Agatha “Gabby” Warner of Newport News; five grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by one grandchild.

Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal was in charge of the arrangements.

James Manuel

Navy veteran

James Hudson Manuel, 67, of Rileyville died on Wednesday, March 6 at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray.

He was bom Oct. 27, 1934 in Rileyville, a son of the late Hudson Lee Manuel and Minnie Elizabeth Wood Manuel.

Mr. Manuel was a carpenter and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lee Manuel of Rileyville; one son, James Anthony Manuel of Fairfax and three grandchildren.

Additional survivors include three brothers, Richard Manuel of Rappahannock, Robert Manual of Florida and Tammy Manuel of Tennessee and two sisters, Betty Cubbage of Stanley and Lea Leake of Maryland.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, March 10 near the Manuel’s residence.
