tor. And as busy as I think I am, my better half Alma keeps a schedule that makes me look as lazy as my basset hound Bubba. So there are a lot of practical reasons to not even think about making such a race.
There are also a lot of political reasons. Mr. Cantor, an extremely well funded incumbent, is considered unbeatable. Larry Sabato, a well known University of Virginia political “expert” was quoted as saying that “Mickey Mouse with an R' next to his name would win that District easily.” So at first glance, it would make no sense for me or anyone else to take on that welloiled machine. All I would get out of it would be a few more gray hairs, if that is possible.
And yet... . And yet, there are a whole lot of compelling reasons to disregard the conventional wisdom and to get after it. Over the years. I've spoken to hundreds of school groups and I always urge them to get involved in the decisions of our government. “Our political system is like our economic system,” I preach, “and it works a lot better with competition.”
Indeed, that competition of ideas and of vision is the lifeblood of democracy, the fuel of a healthy nation. Our rights here are unprecedented, and with every right comes a responsibility.
