Participants sought
The Salem Ruritan Club is seeking sixth and seventh grade students from Rappahannock County to participate in the annual Oratorical Contest. First-place winners in the final contest will each receive a $500 scholarship, following graduation from high school for a college/university or a trade or vocational school.
Applications may be obtained from the school or by contacting Calvin Lightfoot at 825-8233. “What Patriotism Means To Me" has been selected as the topic of this year’s contest. For additional information call Nancy Garrett at 547-3985.

It's that time of the year again, the Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department is gearing up for their biggest fund raising event of the year. Their annual firemen’s carnival will be held July 31 through Aug. 3. This year's parade will be held on Aug. 1.
The crowning of the Honorary Fire Chiefs will be on Aug 2. Any young ladies between the ages 8-21 that are interested in running for the Honorary Fire Chiefs should contact Peggy Bailey, coordinator of this event at 825-0354. There will be an organizational meeting on April 14 at 3 p.m. at the Brandy Station fire station. Anyone interested in this contest is asked to attend.
