Nialta Sue McGee, wife of the late Frank McGee NBC newsman, anchorman and the host of the Today Show, died March 1 at her home in Alexandria following a brief illness.
She was 80 and loved Rappahannock County.
Bom in Norman, Okla., she met her husband in high school. As a young couple they in California, Oklahoma, Texas and Alabama, where he worked for local radio and television stations.
While in Oklahoma, she had her own daily radio show.
Her husband first came to national attention in Montgomery, Ala., with his courageous coverage of Rosa Parks and the bus boycott and other early civil rights leaders including Martin Luther King Jr.
After her husband joined NBC News in the mid-1950s, they lived in Bethesda, Md., Scarsdale, N.Y. and later New York City.
