Search progresses
School Board Chairman Wesley Mills reported that the search for a permanent Superintendent has progressed as planned. Sixteen applications were received by the School Board, and six of those were selected for interviews. After the initial interviews, the two top contenders were chosen for full day interviews and tours here in Rappahannock County, Mr. Mills said, and the number one candidate was selected on the basis of those interviews and comments from RCPS staff. He noted that negotiations are in progress with the candidate, and said that he hoped that a contract could be signed on Dec. 10 "in this room.” Student trip requests
Student Representative Henry Robertson presented the School Board with the plan for the senior trip and he received their approval. The seniors will travel to Orlando, Fla. for a week of theme park (plus Cocoa Beach) fun, leaving on Sunday, March 9, and returning the following Friday. The trip will cost $301 per student plus $6,250 for transportation. Mr. Robertson said that the transportation costs will be raised through a series of fundraisers. He noted that $1300 had already been raised.
Band Director Lynn Fournier requested approval for a band competition trip to Williamsburg May 16 through 18. She spoke of the success of last year's trip and asked that the Board approve the upcoming trip as well as the use of a school bus to keep costs at a minimum. She said that she expected that the proposed trip would cost under $150 per student and that the money for the trip would-be raised through fruit sales and other fundraisers. The Board will make their decision after checking on SOL testing dates and the availability of a school bus and driver.
