been the purpose of the detailed soils study. The proposed system does not support the development of another Inn at Little Washington (the Inn, Cafe and other related buildings use almost 10,000 gallons of water a day).

There are now surfacing concerns about what the drain field will look like during construction. Most of us have seen drain fields under construction. The Town’s drain field will look like an eight-acre drain field under construction. We will complete it as quickly as possible. There are also concerns about cutting down trees. The simple truth is that you cannot have trees growing in a drain field. In the end, the drain field will look like a big open field from which hay will probably be cut. The recirculating sand filter will be screened by trees. I believe it will all be considerably more peaceful than the housing development that might have been built if someone else had bought the land.

Recently, the draft of the Preliminary Engineering Report has been received. I have reviewed it and Steve Critzer, Jeff Benson and Gary Schwartz have reviewed it. With its presence in Town more people are showing interest in what is going on. I have been asked to leave it in the Town Hall for review and not to forward it back to Resources International for finalization until it has been reviewed and a tour of the drain field has taken place.

In providing the information above, I have tried to present some early history and a summary of discussions that have taken place in Town Council meetings this past year.

I have additionally tried to provide further clarification of what a Preliminary Engineering Report is and its purpose. I hope it will provide a basis for reasonable discussions of the wastewater system in the future so that we can get on expeditiously with the development of a system that so may people need.
