On the other hand, Rappahannock High school received a higher rating this year than it did in the past two years, moving up from "Provisionally Accredited/Needs Improvement' to Provisionally Accredited/Meets State Standards."
Both our schools are provisionally accredited now, and we are sure that this year will be the year in which both are fully accredited," said Mrs. Williams in an interview.
Results of SOL tests administered in Virginias 1,830 public schools show that nearly two-thirds of the schools met standards for full accreditation, an increase from 41 percent in 2001. and 23 percent m 2000. The breakdown is as follows:
• Sixty four percent >1,175 schools) are "Fully Accredited
• Fourteen percent (257 schools) are rated "Provisionally Accredited/Meets State Standards :
• Seventeen percent (312 schools) are rated Provisionally Accredited/Needs Improvement";
• Five percent (85 schools) are "Accredited with Warning."
Virginia students are given the SOL tests in grades 3, 5, and 8 and in high school. Schools are required to meet the learning and achievement objectives in these four core subjects — English, mathematics, history’ and social science — by 2007 or lose accreditation.
