Dr. Charles Beckett, Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation for Advanced Study and Training will be presenting “A Christian Response to the Islamic Faith” at the Washington Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. and the public is invited.
Dr. Beckett has served as a Southern Baptist missionary to Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan, and before that he pastored several churches here in Virginia.
Dr. Beckett was born in Sanford, N.C., but was raised in Chase City, Va. He married Jeanne Marie Plunkett of Richmond and they have three children, all of whom were born in East Pakistan.
Dr. Beckett is a graduate of the University of Richmond, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. and Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Conn. While at Southeastern Seminary he earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1959, his master of Theology degree (thesis on Islam) in 1958, and his Doctor of Ministry degree in 1975. He also received a Masters of Arts degree in Islamic Studies from Hartford Seminary in 1993.
Several members of Washington Baptist Church have been reading the KORAN this past year and this meeting will conclude their study on Islam.
