Woodville resident and National Geographic photographer, Chris Johns just completed work on his newest book, Wild at Heart. The book features over 100 stunning photographs of the people, land and wildlife of southern Africa and essays by best selling writer Peter Godwin. Nelson Mandela writes the forward.
Chris Johns and Peter Godwin are National Geographic veterans who have covered the region for years. They offer a knowledgeable perspective on the conservation issues facing Africa today. Johns and Godwin explore an interdependent environment where a fastgrowing population often collides with the efforts to preserve the ' wildlife that is one of Africa’s greatest glories.
Wild at Heart is designed in an unusual horizontal format that allows John’s evocative images to be presented in impressive size and detail. Illustrations, maps and Godwin’s wonderful mix of colorful anecdotes and informed analysis are woven around the photographs. Wild at Heart shows us Africa as it is today and looks ahead to its problematic yet promising future.
Wild at Heart will be available in Long View Gallery starting on Nov. 29. Photographs from the book will be on exhibition at the gallery from Nov. 29 through Dec. 30. Long View Gallery will host a reception for Chris Johns on Saturday, Nov. 30.
