Last year's international SARS outbreak has prompted Virginia legislators to approve proactive measures.

The House last week unanimously supported legislation that outlines quarantine procedures if Virginia faces a communicable disease or other public health threat The proposal now goes to the Senate.

Under the bill, the state health commissioner would impose the quarantine if somebody or some area in Virginia gets exposed to or infected with a disease like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
