up the defense against the Mountaineers of Madison County. The offense got off to a much better start but Madison took a 9-7 first quarter lead. Sherri Woodward chipped in four first quarter points for the Panthers. The defenses of both teams dominated the second quarter as the Mountaineers outscored Rappahannock 6-4 to take a 15-11 half time lead. Beginning the fourth quarter, Madison held a 28-16 lead but saw the Lady Panthers, on two baskets by Samatha Brown, cut the lead to 28-20. Madison went on a 23 to 5 run from that point to end the game.
The Panthers’ defense held Madison star Jessica Timberlake to four points entering the fourth quarter. She finished with 12. Brittany Thornhill and and Sam Brown had seven points each to lead the offensive attack for the Lady Panthers. Molly Burke had 11 rebounds for Rappahannock from the guard position.
