Adult foxhunters also have a NAPPA series, the senior field master chase. Like the juniors, riders 16 and over on a fairly hunted horse, follow a field master, but on the flat, not over jumps. They will also halt and wait to be released for a brief sprint of approximately a quarter mile to the finish. Meets include Rappahannock Feb. 28, Farmington-Keswick March 21 and Bull Rim May 2.
NAPPA events are held at hunts all around North America as a way to introduce foxhunters to racing. It also sponsors a national championship event, in which hunt members from around the country participate, at Morven Park on May 29. Besides the championship junior and adult field master chases, there will be foxhunter races on the flat and over fences and the “Beat Up Cup,” a timber race for older amateur riders.
