Because it was the grant request that 'was to be the creation of this new group, the focus of the meeting was indeed the grant request. As Mr. Tieckelmann states, it was mentioned in the introductory remarks, but it was also alluded to several times during the discussions. Many attendees stated they would not be able to consciously support the creation of a new nonprofit group or center, if the grant was not received. They stated it would compete against their current group’s fund-raising efforts that were already “maxed out.”
All the items discussed at this meeting, i.e., training exercises, central office space, full-time staff, shared resources, etc., was indeed focusing on this center as described in the grant package. It was as if the moderators were reading from a script (the grant package).
