Cell phone users in Rappahannock County who have noticed little or no change in their local reception are not imagining things, even though it’s past the announced mid-September deadline when most of the new cell towers were supposed to be in place.
According to Sprint media relations managed Tom Matthews, “one tower is up and on.”
Matthews said the tower at Eastham Slope off Ben Venue Road has been up and operational since Sept. 27, and that the Rose Hill Silo (on Route 211, near Massies Comer) was slated to be operational by Oct. 6. The Huntly Silo (on Route 522, north of Flint Hill) is scheduled to begin operation the week of Oct. 11.
The Amissville towers, at Nicholson Slope and behind the Amissville Volunteer .Fire Department, are expected to be working by the end of October or early November.
“These are in Verizon’s local service area,” Matthews said. “They’re PCS towers, but we have to wait to get the T-l connectivity from them.”
