Two remaining towers are not up yet. One is an 80-foot “monopine” tower disguised as a tree, destined for a spot along Route 522 south of Flint Hill, and the other is a silo on Route 211 near Washington.
Mathews said rock has delayed the installation of the power lines to the monopine tower near Flint Hill.
“That tower should be up and running by late October or early November,” Matthews said. “We’re going to run it with a generator until the direct power lines are installed.”
Rappahannock County Administrator John McCarthy said the remaining tower, a silo on the Miller property, “is still waiting on FCC approval because of a stream on the site.”
Matthews of Sprint said he thinks it could be next year before it is approved.
McCarthy said that Sprint told him they would call a week before the towers are turned on to allow the county to get the word out that they'll be operational.
McCarthy had not received a call at press time.
