Yard sale
Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue will have an indoor yard sale Oct. 9 at the fire hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to raise funds for a new ambulance. Donations can be picked up, if needed, by calling the fire department at 6753615. The Ladies Auxiliary's Thrift Shop will also have a special sale that day.
Waterpenny festival
The Waterpenny Farms Fall Festival will be held Oct. 9 from 2-4:30 p.m. on 211, just across from Sunnyside. There will be cider pressing, farm tours, a walk to the creek to look for waterpennies—a small insect that when in abundance is an indicator of .the environmental health of the land— and a juggling show. The 13th annual Woodville picnic will be held Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. on Red Oak Mountain Rd. Dinner begins at 4:30 p.m., and live music, hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks will be provided. Civil War roundtable
On Wednesday, Oct. 13, Civil War buff and Confederate philatelist James L.D. Monroe will be the featured speaker at the Fauquier County Civil War Roundtable's monthly dinner meeting at Sumerduck Wood Farm, 13511 Silver Hill Rd., Sumerduck, Va. The topic will be “Confederate Envelopes and the Stories Behind Them. ' Social at 6:30 p.m., dinner is 7-8 p.m. followed by the program. Equine health seminar
Old Waterloo Equine Clinic and Sunny's Corner Farm in Aldie, Va., will host an all day equine health seminar on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the farm. Fee is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Civil War meeting
Author and Culpeper resident Virginia Morton will be a guest speaker Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the Blue Ridge Civil War Roundtable meeting at the Rappahannock library. It is open to members and non-members who share an interest in history and the Civil War. Morton's talk will be on “John Pelham and Robert Beckham: Common Destinies."
