Rappahannock County High School played the first varsity home football game in its 45year history last Saturday and had a pretty good turnout, in spite of the rain showers.
The defending Class A West Virginia state champion Moorefield Yellow Jackets put on a football clinic, defeating the Panthers, 34-14, in front of about 600 fans.
“Their team may not be perfect,” RCHS coach Kemp Pullin said. “But nine out of 10 times they will execute perfectly.”
The Yellow Jackets scored on their first two possessions to lead 14-0 with 3:35 left in the first quarter.
“Our defense is still struggling,” Pullin said. “I’d be more upbeat if I saw progress.”
The Yellowjackets, who led 28-0 at the half, racked up over 300 yards in the game, with more than 200 of them on the ground.
“You don’t have to run trick plays on us, or even throw the ball,” Pullin said. “You just have to run it.”
