Cubbage said VDOT would look into Supervisor Roger Welch’s question on whether the needed resurfacing of the steep south end of Grimsley Road where it connects to Ben Venue Road would come out of the county’s money or the VDOT maintenance fund.
Supervisor Lee also passed on a request from citizens that VDOT look into maintaining the old Route 211 roadbed.
“They don’t want it paved, just maintained,” Lee said.
McCarthy pointed out that the state hadn’t maintained that section of road in more than 20 years.
In a phone interview, McCarthy said that people were still using the road and that more houses had been built off of it.
“If there are more than three residences on a road,” the state will maintain it McCarthy said.
Other actions
Other actions by the Board of Supervisors Monday included the unanimous approval of some $283,000 in supplemental appropriations for the Rappahannock County School Board and the special exception permit for the Copper Fox Distillery to be established on Water Street in Spenyville on the site of the old Rappahannock Fruit and Produce Company.
Applicant Rick Wasmund said after the meeting that the current tenant in the building had a lease through the end of the year and that his distillery operation would be set up sometime in 2005.
