“We’re just a cog in a giant media wheel,” McCarthy said. “They’re dealing with several subcontractors and as soon as they give a date, something comes up and there’s another delay.”
Weather a factor
Weather has been a factor, delaying shipment of the giant poles.
“The fake tree that is to go up on Welch Slope near Flint Hill was in Louisiana awaiting shipment when Hurricane Ivan hit,” McCarthy said. “Obviously, Ivan damage recovery is a bigger priority.”
Sprint has told McCarthy that they would not wait for FCC approval on the seventh tower to begin testing the system.
Sprint is the prime carrier on the towers.
“They may have agreements with some other companies,” McCarthy said. “Obviously, any phone can use the towers, but you’d get roaming charges.”
McCarthy said that most of the towers don’t have the facility to put up more than one antenna.
“The silos don’t have room for more than one,” McCarthy said.
Matthews said Verizon and Sprint could be sharing some lines, but had no details.
