On the first playoff hole, the par-five ninth, Dodson shot a five to Ramsey’s six to win the trophy as the 2004 “most outstanding golfer of the year” for the Bull Run District.
“Jacob was mentally ready for the playoff,” RCHS cocoach Lee Felts said. “He loves pressure. He’s a pitcher in baseball, so he’s used to it.”
Senior Ben Hahn, who shot a 91, also qualified for the Region B tournament. Junior Alex Sharp shot a 92., missing the cutoff for regionals by a stroke.
“I had no doubt in my mind Jacob could win the whole thing if he took it seriously," Felts said. “We had a meeting before the match and I think I got through to him.”
