New Salem Baptist Church members hosted a luncheon at the church on Sunday in honor of their pastor, Rev. Sandy Martin, who is retiring.

Cannan Baptist Church of Reva Way invites the community to worship with them. Services are the first, second and third Sundays of the month at 11 a.m. Sunday School is 9:45 a.m. every Sunday but the fifth Sunday.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mae Johnson upon the loss of her husband, William Henry Johnson, who passed away at the University of Virginia hospital last Thursday as the result of a lawn tractor accident. Mr. Johnson was a classmate of this writer at Salem school and was known to all as “Preacher” Johnson. He resided in the Briar Branch neighborhood, where his parents ran a country store and his father drove the area children to Salem in a bus not like that of today, but in a flat bed two ton truck. He will be sorely missed.
Condolences are extended to the family of Louis Litchford of Reva Way who passed away at University of Virginia Medical Center and was laid to rest in Culpeper National Cemetery on Thursday.
Salem Volunteer Fire Department will have an Open House Oct. 9 at the department on Route 522.
For those of you interested in arts and crafts, a Fall Craft Festival will be held Sunday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Culpeper Assembly Family Life Center. Baked goods and homemade soups will also be available.
