Tb experience an example of the plain and simple style of country living in the nineteenth century, visit Fern Springs Farm, the last stop on the 48th Annual Dried Flower Sale and House Tour on Oct. 16 and 17.
The farm began as a simple two-room log cabin, built under the shade of an enormous oak tree. The farmhouse is reminiscent of the rural stories told of families who survived on their own wit and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life in the country. Two additions have made it more appropriate for modem life, and it is now the home of Emerson and Helen Williams.
The home now sits on the edge of 55 acres which have been intact as a holding for over 100 years, and is currently being considered for a conservation easement. The land itself had for many years been held in the names of old Rappahannock fami
