at RCHS in May
For the first time in recent memory, Rappahannock citizens may take the GED test at Rappahannock County High School. The test will be given in three parts on May 10, 17, and 24. Adults who would like to get extra help in preparation for the tests may call RCHS GED Prep Teacher Susan Fox at 987-8575. These GED Prep sessions are provided in the evening at no charge. To register for the tests, Rappahannock residents are asked to contact Ms. Melbry Paratore at 987-8773 at the Rappahannock County School Board Office at 6 Schoolhouse Rd., Washington. There is a $35 fee for the GED test. Usually Rappahannock residents must travel to surrounding counties to take the GED test. If sufficient numbers of citizens sign up for the May tests in Rappahannock, additional in-county testing dates may be scheduled.

Students Bring Home Physics Olympics Awards
Four prep school students from Wakefield Country Day School recently traveled to Richmond to compete in the “Physics Olympics,” an all-day event sponsored by the University of Richmond that tested students’ ability to practically apply their knowledge of math and physics. The team, consisting of Aubree Parker, Jordan Hammelman, Jin Han Cho, and Patrick Dale, competed against 21 other Virginia teams, in five events, and came home with three awards. The WCDS team won First Place in the exercise entitled “Linear Accelerator,” where each team member had to move with constant acceleration over 16 meters. When the judges compared team times to their calculated values, Wakefield Country Day School was the top team. WCDS won Second Place in the “Overhang,” assignment, which required the student teams to create a structure with bricks and rubber bands that had maximum overhang.
