Money for ambulance
Collins, whose husband Russ is a member of the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, has headed this community project in effort to raise approximately $50,000 for a greatly needed new ambulance for the department.
Donations to the Quilt Show will be used to offset a $73,000 grant which was awarded to the department in January by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.
One of the stipulations of the grant is that the money given must be used within this year, which does not give the department much time to raise additional funds for the total cost of the new vehicle.
In fact, according to Russ Collins, the new ambulance needs to be on order within the next month to have it in by the end of the year, enabling the department to use the grant money for the rescue vehicle.
