Representatives, Gilbert has proposed that he will do all in his power to make the tax structure more fair for Virginians, especially families who live from paycheck to paycheck.
With property tax assessments anticipated to rise anywhere from 50 to 100 percent in the next year, Gilbert said that he is aware of the Republican party working on ways to handle areas that attract people to places like Shenandoah and Rappahannock Counties, making them into “bedroom communities.”
“In those situations, the localities take on the bi.rden of education and services, increasing the tax burden on low income and fixed income families,” he said, “We need to create a situation where people feel they are a part of the American dream — people making right choices and the government is not there to beat them down by misspending their tax dollars.”
