A piece of history
One of the quilts that will be on display was made by Washington’s Ora Ray, depicting all of the black Baptist churches in Rappahannock County.
“When I was young, my mother used to make me do it (quilt),” Ray laughed, “I said I would never do it again, and here I am making quilts with the club.”
Ray added that she had thought of doing a quilt with all of the Baptist churches in the county, but it would be “one huge quilt.”
She has also made another quilt which combines delicately crochet flowers appliqued on a machine sewn background, then hand-quilted.
For each work of art on display, there will be a brief description of the technique used to make each quilt.
